What are the benefits to a home owner?

What is it that makes Accoya so special and stand out from other wood products?

Minimal Maintenance
Take windows as an example, because of the stability of the wood you will not have to redecorate your windows as frequently as traditional wood. In our testing carried out in the Netherlands, SHR painted these samples and put them on a test rig. After 10 years they bought these samples inside and we can see there is a difference in the coating behaviour of the two samples. The traditional wood is getting bigger which is stretching the coating and putting it under distress. The grain structure is moving up and down causing further disruption of the coating, yet with the Accoya it doesn’t grow and also stays completely flat. The grain doesn’t lift and fibres are not moving, so it provides an ideal substrate to prolong the life of paint. As a home owner, you will not have to decorate your windows and doors for significantly longer. See page 15 of the Performance Testing Summary below.

Thermally Efficient
A further benefit of Accoya is it’s more thermally efficient than other woods – it has a much higher U value (rate of transfer of heat) than hardwood, meaning Accoya will keep your house better insulated. Accoya is regularly used to achieve A rated windows under the UK’s BFRC Window Energy Rating Program where other woods in the same design would not meet this standard. See page 21 of the Performance Testing Summary below.

Minimal Shrink and Swell
A further advantage as a home owner, is that your window or door will work in all seasons. As the temperature rises and falls across the seasons, the shrink and swell of Accoya is significantly reduced, allowing them to open and close easily. See page 17 of the Performance Testing Summary below.

Safe for You and Your Family
Accoya is Cradle-to-Cradle® Platinum certified for Material Health and Cradle to Cradle® Gold certified as an overall product. Accoya is the only construction material in the world to achieve this, providing reassurance that Accoya is not damaging the planet now or for future generations. See certifications below.

Design Freedom
There is so much design freedom with Accoya wood as products can be made bespoke to you. Accoya can be finished to suit your style and your home, no matter how bold that may be. With a wide variation of finishes such as coated, stained, charred, brushed etc. the choice is yours. See page 12 of the Performance Testing Summary below.
